17 Sep Curved Balcony Challenge: How We Conquered It at ProBuilder
At ProBuilder, we recently took on a project that really put our skills to the test—a curved balcony that needed a custom fascia piece. This wasn’t just about aesthetics; the fascia also had to provide crucial support for the patio’s drip edge to ensure proper water drainage. It was a tricky task, but challenges like these are where we thrive.
We began by sourcing a large sheet of fibre cement sheeting, which we then cut to the required size. But cutting it was just the first step. To get the material flexible enough to follow the curve of the balcony, we soaked the sheet in water. Once it was pliable, we set up a carefully braced jig right on the balcony, using the scaffolding for support. This step was crucial in making sure the sheet would hold its shape without cracking.
Then came the part that required both patience and precision. We gradually applied pressure to bend the sheet along the curve. This wasn’t a one-and-done situation—sometimes we had to leave the material overnight to let it settle before continuing to shape it the next day. Slowly but surely, the sheet started to take on the perfect curve.
The final result was well worth the effort. The curved fascia not only looks sleek and enhances the overall design, but it also serves its functional purpose perfectly, keeping water flowing off the patio as it should. This project was a great reminder of how teamwork and attention to detail are the keys to overcoming even the most challenging tasks.
At the end of the day, this curved balcony became one of those projects where we could really show what we’re capable of—taking a difficult brief and turning it into a beautiful, practical solution. It’s just another example of how we at ProBuilder approach every job: with a commitment to quality, no matter how tough the challenge.
