Planning a Kitchen Splashback the Right Way

In this home, our interior designer selected a 150mm-high kitchen splashback tile—designed to finish neatly just under the kitchen window. While it might sound like a simple touch, this decision kicked off a highly detailed planning process to get the layout just right.

We don’t believe in guesswork or cutting corners. Instead of installing the cabinetry first and tiling around it, we worked backwards to ensure everything aligned perfectly.

What That Looked Like on Site:

• Careful measurement from the floor up

• Factoring in custom joinery height and benchtop thickness

• Allowing for proper silicon joints and a full tile

• Calculating the exact position and height of the kitchen window to suit the tiling

Every element was mapped out in a scaled construction drawing, shared across our site files and intranet. This allowed the site supervisor, builders, and joinery team to be fully aligned—long before installation began.
